Miser to Man of the city in a Christmas Carol Essay Scrooge is not very well like by the Cratchits. You can see this by I wish I had him here. Id give him a piece of my mind to feast upon and I hope hed have a good appetite for it. This shows that he is not liked because he is an odious, stingy, hard, unfeeling man. This make Scrooge feel bad and he learns a valuable lesson. Treat others as you wish to be treated. If he doesnt want to be called bad tempered, money grabbing, old sinner, then we has to be caring and thoughtful. Scrooge every year at his nephew Freds house, is invited to a Christmas party, but always turns it down. Scrooge is not very well liked by the people at the party especially Fred. You can tell this by they invent a new game called yes or no. This shows that Scrooge is talked behind this back and that people do not care if they hurt his feeling. Scrooge feels unwanted and uncared for. You can tell this by One half hour, Spirit, only one. This shows that Scrooge has feeling and he wants to go as soon as possible because he crying and in great disbelief. Scrooges future looks uncertain when he goes into the future and sees him in a corner of the graveyard, unnoticed, uncared for. You can from this point that Scrooge is at the end of his tether. You can tell this by For the first time his hand appeared to shake. This shows that Scrooge has become more and more frightened and knows he must change his future to be cared for and missed dearly. He does not breakdown till this point because he can not change the past and that does not bother him. At the end of all the spirits visiting Scrooge is disappointed himself by being a selfish, lonely, old man. The Last straw is when he visits his own grave. He is already depressed with the entire trauma and another dig in his grave has made him tremble in fear. You can tell this by The Spirit stood among the graves, and pointed down to one. He advanced towards it trembling. This shows that Scrooge is scared of him and wants to change rather than just a person who has just died. Scrooge really wants to change because he doesnt want to be the man in the corner that no one visits. You can tell this by Are these the shadows of the things that will be, or are they the shadows of the things that may be, only. This shows that Scrooge wants to change because of his experiences over the night. He wants to know that if he changes and mingles with people he will not die and nobody will care. He gets more and more distressed because the spirit wont tell him if he can change his shadows of the future. You can tell this by Assure me that I yet may change these shadows you have shown me, by an altered life. He is on his knees, desperately trying to change his future. This tells us from this point onwards Scrooge will be a changed man to avoid distressing death. Scrooge wakes up the next morning a changed man, a generous man. You can tell this by Scrooge regarded everyone with a delighted smile. This shows that Scrooge has took into great account of what the spirits said and gone out to change his future. He is a changed man to the public. You can tell this by If you please, said Scrooge and not a farthing less. A great many back-payments are included in it, I assure you This shows Scrooge as being as kind, thoughtful, caring man rather than a squeezing, wrenching, grasping, scraping, clutching covetous old sinner. Scrooge now respects the poor people more than ever, especially the Cratchits. You can tell this by and therefore I am about to raise your salary. This shows that Scrooge would rather share more of his money to make more people happy than just himself. This is different from the beginning because when the gentleman comes to visit he pushes him away and believes in Laissez Faire. Scrooge has now become a happier and more cheerful human being because he has changed his way of living. You can tell this by they all sit around the table eating Christmas dinner. This shows he is not self-contained, lonely old sinner, but a sociable character and because he changed his actions, Tiny Tim did live and Scrooge and his family say God bless Us, Everyone!

Users of HR services and their needs One of the HR users for an organization is line manager. The line manager basically observed the activities that are associated with services and products. The duties of line managers are staffing, ensuring health and safety of employees and supervision of manufacturing plants. The need of line manager is the timely services of the manufacturing plants. Their monitoring work will reduced. They are also responsible in hiring staff. Another need of line manager is that the company will organize certain training session for the employees. These sessions will increase the efficiency of employees and line managers can easily supervise them. The employees are main asset for an organization. An employee needs good working environment where there is no discrimination between the employees and where they feel secure. Another need of employees is that they will be awarded with some rewards like praise, bonuses and promotion. These methods will motivate them to work more efficiently. Another HR user is potential employees. The success of any organization is depends on the potential employees. The potential employees demand flexibility at work. Employees should be allowed to choose their working hours according to their efficiency. The other demand of potential employees is that they are allowed to work from home if there presence at the company is not necessary. (user of HR services and their needs) Identify and prioritized conflicting needs The needs of the employees and managers with the organization are different. It is not possible for an organization to fulfill each and every demand and needs of the employees. This will leads to the degradation in the performance of the employees. Now it become necessary for an organization to identify and prioritized the conflicting needs according to the performance of employee and welfare of the company. The employees need such an environment at organization where there is no discrimination on the basis of religion, caste and region and where they can communicate comfortably. This need of employees should be prioritized first and make such rules and regulations to create such environment so that there performance level will increase. The priority should be given to those needs which help the organization to achieve its goal and the needs which are beneficial for most of the employees. It should not be done on individual basis whether he is a manager or an employee. The employees also need that they should be awarded with some bonuses and incentives according to their work. This demand of employees is beneficial for all the workers and because of this their performance level will increase. This need should be prioritized first because it helps in gaining companyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s goal. The employees also demand that company should apply flexibility at work. According to the flexibility at work, the employees and managers are allowed to choose their working hours according to their stamina. This demand will increase the efficiency of the employees and give benefit to the organization. The organization should conduct the performance review. It is an in depth and more formal way to identify job related needs of an employee. According to the review the company is able to design such policies which will fulfill the needs of the maximum employees. An organization can also use the motivation inventory which will be used to identify needs of employees. They should also arrange various training session and meeting where the employees can discuss their needs and demands with the human resource managers. These sessions helps the managers to identify common needs and which need should be prioritized first. At the time of job interview, the manager should ask certain question which will uncover their needs at the workplace. These questions will help the organization to indentify those employees who can work at vigorous condition and with limited resources at the time of emergency. Another to indentify the customer need is effective communication. The effective communication between employees and managers are important because most of the problems and needs can be resolved just by communication. The employees also demand the better health facility at the organization. The priority should be given to this need also because the employee who has good health can work more efficiently and quickly. This will save the time of both workers and organization . (identify conflicting needs) Methods of communication The effective communication between employees and managers plays a vital role in the progress of an organization. Communication at workplace should be organized in the systematic manner like other activity. Top management is responsible for the successful communication at workplace. The main link in any method of communication is line supervisors and managers. Ineffective communication by line managers causes poor performance. The method of communication used for line managers is direct communication. The advantage for this method is that the line managers become more aware about the needs and problems of their employees. According to the needs of employees, they can easily plan the working schedule. Various training session and meeting should be organized by an organization so that the employees can easily communicate with their managers directly on different issues. The communication must be concise, easily understood and clear. Sometime, the employees force their line managers to accept their needs even they are not useful for an organization. In direct communication, there is no written proof for any communication and because of this a person can not claim anyone at the time of any problem. Team briefing is another method of communication. The mentor of the group provides their employees with new information so that they the employees can ask any queries and discuss any problem. In this method the employees can easily cover all the important area. It is very time consuming and these session should be organized at regular interval. Another method of communication is electronic media. Electronic media helps in delivering important information cheaply and quickly. The employees can search any information on the website of their respective organization. The information through this method can be delivered at fast speed without any face to face contact with each employees and at one time information can reach too many employees. This method will save the time of both employees and management. The disadvantage of this method is that the information can not be delivered at the time of any technical problem or system crash problem. The employees also send their problems or any suggestion through email. Another method of communication is written document. Every organization has its own employee handbook which has information related to job. The employees are provided with this handbook so that they can aware of rule and regulation of an organization. The performance report of an employee is prepared in written document. This report will help the employee to analyze his performance and try to improve it. Newsletter and journals are another method of written document. These provide information to the employees on the regular basis about the company. It contains large amount of personal and social information. The aim of notices is to bring the attention of the employees, matter of specific interest and general information. Individual letter is a method of communication which ensures that the specific information is reached to the specific employees and targeted group. The advantage of the written document method is that the company has legal documents of information and because of this nobody will claim for any damage. It is also beneficial for those employees who has a part time job and who work from home. William Shakespeare's Henry IV In Shakespeare’s Henry IV Part 2, the brilliant playwright introduces us to several complex and intricate themes, clever language, and a fascinating cast of multifaceted characters, including the thief Jack Falstaff, who may be as wise as his belly is big, and the young Prince Hal, who conceals his shrewd mind and physical prowess beneath a soiled reputation for â€Å"unthrifty† behavior. Perhaps the most dynamic character of the play is Hotspur, or Henry Percy, the idealistic rebel warrior, and Hal’s rival for power, glory, and the throne. Although the public perceives him to be just an intense, hotheaded he-man, Hotspur actually has many different dimensions to his personality. Hotspur shows, particularly in his interactions with his wife, Lady Percy, that his attitude toward the roles of masculinity and femininity differ from the public’s expectations of him, and his expression of certain feminine characteristics proves that he is not solely the manl y-man warrior he is thought to be. The first impressions of Hotspur in the play support his macho reputation well. King Henry himself speaks favorably of Percy, calling him â€Å"the theme of honor’s tongue† (I.i.81) and in comparing Hotspur with the King’s own son Hal he expresses his wish that â€Å"some night-tripping fairy had exchang’d / In cradle-clothes our children where they lay / And call’d mine Percy, his Plantagenet!† (I.i.86). We learn that Hotspur is valiant, and skillful in war: he has recently captured several important hostages. He is also full of pride, and is not afraid to stand up to the King in requesting the freedom of his brother-in-law, Mortimer. Conversely, we also see that Hotspur is apt to fall prey to his i... ...nvied by many, and as Lady Percy says in this play’s sequel, Henry IV Part 2, after his death, â€Å"He was indeed the glass / Wherein the noble youth did dress themselves† (Part 2, I.iii.21-22). However, it is clear now that Hotspur is not exactly the ultimate 15th century manly-man: he is prone to â€Å"woman’s moods† such as irrational and hurried thoughts, he engages in hissy fits, and his relationship with his wife is one of balanced teasing and tenderness rather than superficiality and traditional male/female inequality. Albeit being a talented soldier and a challenging opponent, Hotspur is capable of exposing his feminine qualities in situations such as those with his wife. Hotspur is one of the most complex characters in this play, and the fact that he can balance his masculine image with typically feminine traits proves that he truly is the most dynamic character. Pro-War Characters with an Anti-War Message Essay -- Literary Analysis

In the first chapter of Slaughterhouse-Five, the narrator goes to meet an old war friend, Bernard V. O’Hare, who served with him in World War II and was also witness to the bombing of Dresden. The narrator, having attempted to write a novel based on his experiences during that time for many years, was hoping that, between the two of them, they could come up with some good war stories to incorporate into his novel. After many failed attempts to find something of substance upon which to base his novel, both men failed, for â€Å"there is nothing intelligent to say about a massacre† (19). Instead, the most important thing anyone came up with that evening was one who hadn’t even served in the war. Mary O’Hare, Bernard’s wife, was opposed to war, â€Å"it was war that made her so angry†, and feared that, through the narrator’s story, he would make war â€Å"look just wonderful, so we’ll have a lot more of them† (15, 14). Upon hearing Mary’s outburst, the narrator promised her â€Å"there wouldn’t be a part for Frank Sinatra or John Wayne† in his telling of his experiences during war (15). Instead, the narrator pledged that he would title his novel â€Å"The Children’s Crusade†, which Slaughterhouse-Five is subtitled, and dedicated the novel to her. While Slaughterhouse-Five may not have any characters Sinatra or Wayne would be suited to play, it does contain many characters that hold pro-war views. In many ways, the narrator’s honest portrayal of characters who view war in a positive manner or who attempt to justify the bombing of Dresden works against them. The narrator, for the most part, doesn’t attempt to rebuke or criticize these views, but instead represents them in all their unflinching honesty. By highlighting the inhumanity and cruelty of these char... ...more sympathetic than Eaker to those who lost their lives in the Dresden bombing. Saundy believed â€Å"that the bombing of Dresden was a great tragedy none can deny†, and that it wasn’t necessary to the Allies efforts to win the War (187). However, he does defend those who directed the bombing, stating they â€Å"were neither wicked nor cruel†, but instead forced into making a tough decision in a decisive time in the War (187). Saundy presents a much more humane view of the bombing of Dresden than Eaker. Saundy doesn’t attempt to justify or condemn the bombing; he instead portrays it as one of the many horrors of war that can only be viewed in hindsight as such. These official assessments offer the observation that â€Å"military men responsible for such slaughters act not out of malignity but from muddled values which prevent them from seeing simpler moral truths† (Reed, 54).

Lust, Violence, and Death in Paradise Lost    Images and allusions to sex and death are intermingled throughout John Milton's Paradise Lost. The character of Satan serves as not only an embodiment of death and sin, but also insatiated sexual lust. The combination of sex and lust has significant philosophical implications, especially in relation to themes of creation, destruction, and the nature of existence. Milton, in Paradise Lost, establishes that with sex, as with religion, he is of no particular hierarchical establishment. However, Milton does not want to be confused with the stereotypical puritan. Milton the poet, seems to celebrate the ideal of sex; yet, he deplores concupiscence and warns against the evils of lust, insisting   lust   leads to sin, violence and death. There is no reason to apply modern theories to Milton if we do not care whether Milton remains alive. However, if we wish him to be more than a historical artifact, we must do more than just study him against the background of his time. Yet, despite his reasoning to seek revenge against God, "his true motivation for escaping from hell and perverting paradise is, at least partly, something more basic: Satan needs sex" (Daniel 26). In the opening books of the poem, Satan is cast into a fiery hell that is not only is miserable, but devoid of sex. As Satan describes when he has escaped to Eden, in hell: "neigh joy nor love, but fierce desire, / Among our other torments not the least, / Still unfulfilled with pain of longing pine" (Book IV, 509-11).

History of Uganda Essay

In the year 1890 to 1926, the British government forged what is today the country called Uganda although they are not the initial unity negotiators in the country. The derivation of the name Uganda was from the kingdom of Buganda. This kingdom encompasses the southern portion which includes Kampala, its capital city. Prior to the unification of the country by the British, the country was under the control of the dynasty of the Bachwezi. These are the same people who had an influence upon Rwanda, the government of Tanzania as well as Congo in the period 1100 to 1600 AD (Akallo & Alford 38-40). Background Information about Uganda The nation of Uganda is an East African landlocked country which takes its name from the kingdom of the Buganda. They also congregated in an eastern region in Congo called Bunia. They made links with Army for Liberation of Rwanda, the (ALIR) among other rebel groups (White 1-6). LRA came into being in 1987 for the purpose of engagement in the armed rebellion directed to the government of Uganda. This has been a major conflict in Africa. The leader of the group, Joseph Kony was in a position for self proclamation as Gods spokesman as well as a Holy Spirit medium. According to the belief of the Acholi, there is a possibility for diverse forms of manifestation by the Holy Spirit. (United Nations) How the LRA affected the people’s lives in Uganda Many people in Uganda lost their home and lives. Children who were used to be child soldiers have been suffered in physical or emotional ways. LRA has been documented as having abducted above 60 000 children as well as youth in Uganda. In every three of the male adolescent, one of them has been abducted, while in every 6 of the female adolescent, one of them has been abducted. The young women as well as the girls of the origin of the Acholi as well as the Langi are used to perform some chores while in captivity for the rebels and their abductors. These include fetching water, cooking, carrying of supplies, cleaning for the commanders of the army. They also played the roles of forced wives to the group members and therefore the majorities were impregnated. According to the Uganda Aids Commission, so far, around 130,000 Ugandans are infected with the HIV virus every year. Over 1,000,000 (one million) citizens in the country of Uganda is the actual estimate subsisting with HIV, 520,000 of them being women while 110,000 of them are children (Gatwech 23-43). The lives of the ex-child soldiers were distorted by the effects of the involvement in the activities of the group. It was difficult for the children to go back to schools. Majority of the were in a situation that they needed some more chances in order to resume to normal life. This is because to the majority abduction took place at a stage that was early in life. The young soldiers greatly fear to take involvement in revenge as well as a chance of acceptance. Majority of the citizens consider these kids to be killers but the fact is that they are usually very good people (Gatwech 23-43). Conclusion and solutions In conclusion, to solve this internal conflict, the government is duty bound to conduct the development as well as the implementation of the most comprehensive strategy addressing issue of security, humanitarian action as well as political action. The army should be reformed as well as re-oriented which is only achievable through the provision of a path responsible for the negotiation and allow for the transition of the country to greater democracy. The life of the young children who took part in the conflict is at peril and the responsibility of their rehabilitation falls on the government. Reflection of Clinical Observation Experience Essay

I am a nursing student from Australian Catholic University. This role play is about the vital signs. Now, I am going to write a reflective write about the video of my role play of TPR which is a part of assignment and done by me and my other two friends. Firstly, in my video when I play a nurse role, first of all I asked about the patient’s condition such as how are you today. I also make the eye contact while taking to patient. But this is my first time to take vital signs. I found more challenging than my expectations while I communicate the patient. Verbal and nonverbal communication is a part of communication between patient and nurse. (Hamilton, 2007). But I forget to introduce myself to the patient. I realise that is my first mistake to communicate with patient. Secondly, I washed my hand properly before taking the patient vital signs. Alcohol based hand rub is simply most useful intervention in controlling infection (Australian commission on safety and quality in healthcare, 2009). When I go near to the patient I prepare each and every thing what nurses needed while taking vital signs. Such as patients recording file, pen and instrument for taking vital signs. Furthermore, before I start to check the patient I did make sure the she is the right patient or not which is written in her name, date of birth, MRN number and the doctor name in her hand band. I have always assumed that it is a simple process but I found that my expectation were far from my contract. Thirdly, I start to take the vital signs but before that I asked the permission from the patient. â€Å"Vital signs refer to the measurement of a patient’s temperature, pulse respiration and blood pressure. Vital signs commonly include temperature, blood pressure, pulse rate and respiratory rate which are used to access the most essential body function (Stomski, 2009). Firstly, I start from to take the patient’s temperature, pulse rate, respiratory rate .and blood pressure and records in the patient’s file. However, while taking the blood pressure I have to support patient’s hand by pillow or hand which I forgot at that moment. After that mistake I determined I never do that mistake in my profession. Finally, when I finished taking the vital signs I appreciate to the patient thank you for your Participation. After finished my role play I realise participation word is not appropriate. Instead of that I have to say thank you for your cooperation. I feel this is the best way to communicate between nurse and patient. I have always believed that the elderly do very little with their time. I found a positive aspect about the elderly – even though they are old, the patients were creatively active by own choice which makes them busy and so they have happy existence. In the low care unit people were doing recreational work such as painting and stick picture and cartoon on the paper. I found health professionals were polite and friendly with the patients. I also found patience in the staff and the patient when they are communicating with each other. The health professionals encourage patients to speak and genuinely interested in client’s word and encourage them to converse. This interaction impressed me a lot and I learned a new lesson how to motivate people. I am glad I went on this field visit because it demonstrated to me many positive qualities – most importantly, the empathy that I will need to have in order to be a skilled and caring nurse. . Moreover, right patient, right place and right way of taking the vital signs is also part of nursing skills. Also comfortable between patient and nurse is very important.
